Editor’s Letter

It’s sad to see that once again we are stuck with two old white men running for President. Not that there’s anything wrong with old white men, but come on. It is way past time to have a female President. As more time goes by, I fear I will not see it happen in my lifetime. That’s plain sad.

It doesn’t matter to me who gets the Democratic Party nod. I am voting blue! That being said, we are just coming off of women’s history month, and it would have been completely and utterly fucking fabulous to have a female candidate. Neither Elizabeth Warren, Kamala Harris, Amy Klobucher, Kirsten Gillibrand, Marianne Williamson, nor Tulsi Gabbbard were able to gain any traction. I feel they weren’t given the coverage that the other candidates recieved. It’s that simple. People of color were also not given the coverage that their white counterparts were given.

When recently asked about gender in the race, Elizabeth Warren said “Gender in this race, you know, that is the trap question for every woman. If you say, yeah, there was sexism in this race, everyone says ‘whiner.’ And if you say, no, there was no sexism, about a bazillion women think, ‘what planet do you live on?’”

It is disheartening that women are still not considered serious contenders. If you are a man reading this, you just won’t understand. There were lots of factors in 2016 that shaped that race. But, think about this for a minute, Hillary Clinton had three million more popular votes in 2016 and she still didn’t win. What message do you think that sends to voters? Don’t waste your vote on a woman, even if she wins, she will lose.

If we are going to beat Trump, we are going to have to join together. WE have to be committed to the cause of voting Trump out of office. Not every Democrat is committed to the cause of voting Trump out. I have heard people say if Bernie doesn’t get the nomination, they will not vote, or they may vote for Trump. Some have said that if Biden doesn’t get the nomination, they will not vote. That pretty much guarantees Trump another four years.

Is it possible for us to join forces and move forward?

It was just reported by The Huffington Post that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez says she’ll back the Democratic nominee, even if it’s not Bernie Sanders. “I’ve been concerned by some folks that say if Bernie’s the nominee, they won’t support him, and the other way around,” she said.“This is more important than all of us. We really need to make sure that we defeat Donald Trump at the polls, assuming, and knowing, how insane it’s going to get between now and then.”

I am so happy to hear Ocasio-Cortez say this. I can’t say it enough. Now get out and spread the word. Vote blue no matter who!
