ICANDY makes Philly nightlife even sweeter

Many of our Jersey boys take the pilgrimage to Philadelphia’s “gayborhood” on a weekly basis, making stops at some of the hot spots in Philly. Now, there is another place to add to your next night out-ICANDY. Owner Darryl Depiano has transformed Philadelphia standby 12th Air Command into a true nightlife experience. Here, he talks to Entertainment Editor Cookie on what he plans to bring to the boys of Philadelphia and Jersey.
 
Darryl, thanks so much for taking the time to speak with me. so 12th Air Command was a legend in Philadelphia nightlife. What made you take on the daunting task of totally reinventing it as ICANDY?

I have been in the Nightclub and Restaurant business for years, as has my family.  I have taken over other clubs and business with the intent to re-invent a new establishment. I see a real opportunity with the real estate, and the neighborhood to bring something new to the LGBT community of Philadelphia

12th Air Command had many loyal customers throughout the years. Will the changes be drastic to the facility?

The change will be drastic and will not at all resemble the old venue!!  We took on the venture with the idea to drastically change the entire club to offer something new and fresh

Philadelphia has an extremely active nightlife for the LGBT community, from Knock to Woody’s to Tavern to Voyeur. How will ICANDY carve out it own niche?  

We will offer multi-level complex that will offer something for everyone.  Each level, will be completely different from one another and offer a completely different enviornment

Do you have any special events or special evening’s themes planned for ICANDY?

The weekly events and upcoming special parties will be released after we secure all planning. We want to bring unique events and offer change to the community

I hear rumblings that a dance floor will be a big part of  ICandy; Who is on your “DJ Wish List” to spin?

We have a # of NYC DJ’s as well as reputable Philadelphia DJ’s  that have been ICONS in the LGBT community; names such as Michael Decero,Robbie Tronco,DJ Dominic Romeo,Junior Vasquez- and many more.

What do you hope to bring to Philadelphia nightlife with ICandy?

Something new and fresh with live entertainment, and unique special events for charities and offer a complex that the customer can frequent often because each level will be completely different, so it’s not the same old grind!
