Election recap

The passing of a few weeks has not made analyzing the results of the November elections any less daunting.  It is still difficult to gauge fully the impact of the elections on the LGBTI community.  One thing is certain and that is the election truly lived up to its billing as being the most significant election of many of our lifetimes.

On the positive side, we essentially kicked the bums to the curb. The Republicans are gone from The White House and their presence in Congress is greatly reduced.  Jared Polis, an openly gay man, was elected to Congress increasing the “Congressional Gay Caucus” to three. The President and Congress have an LGBTI agenda they vow to advance.  A key Obama advisor is a lesbian.  And, Oregon boasts an out mayor of a major city (Portland) and a transgender mayor (Silverton).
