New Women’s Mixer in South Jersey

Like many lesbians and others in our LGBTQ family, we’ve missed getting together in person but a newly reimagined women’s event is being launched so we can, once again, get our groove on in South Jersey. It fills the gap between “Ladies 2000” parties, which move around from venue to venue across the area.

Marianne Leone had the idea to start Marianne’s Mixers because she and her wife, Lisa, had really missed being “socially gay. Being out there with the community, dancing, laughing, and just having a good time.” She believes there’s room for more than one woman-centered event to coexist with the legendary dance party [the “Ladies” that we all know and love].

This new one, Marianne’s Mixers — Women on Women, has a twist to it for the lesbian community. Each mixer will start off with an interactive component playing off game show concepts like The Dating Game, Family Feud, and other trivia-type shows. Marianne feels this “will break the ice and have us get to know each other a little bit.” There will also be exhibit tables for local LGBTQ businesses and our allies, as well as marketing slides up on the display screens, to raise awareness of businesses that we can then support.

There are other fun features that will be on display that night, but you’ll have to come to experience them. The doors open at 4 pm for the first mixer on April 16, at Vera’s, in Cherry Hill. Vera’s is located only 15 minutes from Philadelphia and has a large parking lot. The music playlist will be curated by the community, via the MMWoW Facebook page.

Tickets can be purchased on Eventbrite. Use code “MMWoWFlyer” for a discount on your tickets, which starts at only $12. Price for admission at the door is $20, so plan ahead. “My goal is to hold mixers every other month so that the LGBTQ+ community members can have something to look forward and count on,” says Leone.

See you on the dance floor!
