Taylor Swift

Midnights marks the tenth studio album from Taylor Swift, her first since 2020’s Folklore and Evermore. The album is a concept album based on nocturnal contemplation and all the emotional processing we do during the wee hours of the night.

Working closely with Bergenfield native Jack Antonoff, the two have created a vulnerable and relatable body of work, filled with songs which act as lyrical confessionals. The lyrics are supported by electronic-pop production with a chill, alternative undertone. The album reads like a dairy. This is evident right out of the gate with title tracks like “Anti-Hero,” “You’re on Your Own, Kid,” “Karma,” and “Mastermind.” To support the album, Swift will embark on all-stadium tour, The Eras Tour, which kicks off in March and runs through August 2023.

Alicia Keys

Santa Baby marks the first Christmas album by 15x Grammy® Award-winning singer, songwriter, and producer Alicia Keys. The Englewood resident, who purchased Eddie Murphy’s iconic mansion in 2013, covers seven holiday classics and features four original Christmas cuts.

The 11-track album marks Keys’ first project on her new record label, Alicia Keys Records. The album is available for streaming exclusively on Apple Music as well as on CD format. Vinyl copies can be pre-ordered with shipping expected in December. This is a relaxing holiday album with solid production complimented by Keys’ smooth vocals resulting in music you can vibe to through the holiday season.

Carly Rae Jepsen

The Loneliest Time is the sixth studio album from Carly Rae Jepsen, released to coincide with The So Nice Tour. The album was recorded throughout the time Jepsen was in quarantine in 2020, hence the title. The record is easily Jepsen’s most emotional yet, infusing the pop-synth sounds fans adore with stronger songwriting. Lyrically, the messages are very relatable.

Production wise, the sounds are both addicting and nostalgic, making you miss the synth sounds of the early 2010s pop scene. This is certainly Jepsen’s strongest album yet given the infusion of vulnerable lyrics with dance beats. A genius combination, allowing you to dance through heartbreak, and ultimately find yourself feeling better by the time the album closes. Carly Rae Jepsen has developed a very distinct sound and stands out more than ever in a pop scene which simply doesn’t compare to the pop sounds of a decade ago.

Backstreet Boys

The Backstreet Boys have made a highly unexpected comeback this year. Their sold-out DNA World Tour, which was halted during the COVID-19 Pandemic, resumed in April 2022 and will continue through March 2023. They were recently tapped for iHeartRadio’s Jingle Ball. Now, they dropped their tenth studio album and first Christmas album, A Very Backstreet Christmas.

Upon release the album hit #1 on Billboard Top Holiday Albums, #17 on the Billboard 200, and charted impressively globally. The 13-track album (15 on deluxe editions) is primarily composed of classic covers and subsequently features three original tracks. This is a project the boys have been waiting 30 years to do and the enthusiasm shows. Overall, a very strong and enjoyable holiday album from start to finish.
