The new lesbian coming-of-age romantic drama Girls Like Girls had its big-screen theatrical release on June 19. It is now is available to rent or purchase on at-home digital video-on-demand platforms such as Amazon Prime Video.

The score, composed by Jessica Rose Weiss, has also been released and is available to stream on all major music platforms.

She created the new orchestral arrangement of Hayley Kiyoko’s iconic song “Girls Like Girls,” which is featured in the film’s trailer and during its end credits. Rose-Weiss previously composed the score for the 2023 Jennifer Lawrence-led romantic comedy No Hard Feelings. As a rising force in the film composition world, Rose-Weiss is becoming a wonderful talent in bringing movies to life through the sound elements. The powerful music she created for Girls Like Girls amplifies the emotional stakes of every scene, adding depth to this touching summer romance.

The album opens with “Train Tracks,” a beautifully poignant piece driven by expressive strings. It evokes the warmth of a bright summer day and perfectly captures the youthful joy and emotional longing at the heart of the film.

The dreamy vibes of the track “Meet Cute” will put you in a love-filled mood. Its peaceful, calming energy evokes the feeling of spending a warm day by the pool with someone you love. Listening to it feels like experiencing a warm hug, making it the perfect accompaniment to the love Coley and Sonya share as they spend their laid-back, sunny days swimming together.

The track “I’m Not Good Enough,” appears towards the end of the project and features a sound that captures the difficult emotions of lead character Coley’s journey throughout the film. Coming to terms with your sexuality as a teenager can be an incredibly difficult and lonely experience, and Rose-Weiss’s composition beautifully reflects those feelings of uncertainty, isolation, and vulnerability. The piece creates an intimate emotional atmosphere that allows listeners to connect more deeply with Coley’s personal struggles while reinforcing the film’s heartfelt coming-of-age story.

For those who have not yet seen the film, this score is still the perfect place to start. If you are looking for an emotional collection of music that makes you feel truly alive, much like an unforgettable summer, this score delivers exactly that. Through gentle acoustic guitar arrangements and shimmering synths, the music feels as expansive and uplifting as a sun-drenched day in the Oregon wilderness, echoing the journey that Coley and Sonya experience throughout the story.
