summer fashion.
This summer in New York City has been an absolute style disappointment. There’s not enough experimentation. Here are some of my fave trends for summer and some tips on how to make ’em your own.
Pants should be slim not tight, fit to perfection and stop just right above the ankle, hovering the shoe. Pants in black or charcoal paired with loafers are classic, and also look good in bold colors; royal blue, orange or a kelly green with a printed shoe and a vintage tee. The length can easily transition into fall by adding fun socks. For an even more relaxed look go for a pair of drop crotch chinos.
Tees, if there isn’t a band printed on the front, throw it away. For shirts Gingham print looks good when it’s not in the typical red and white. Leave that for the picnic table, blue is a good choice. Look for a larger print instead of the smaller traditional checkered. With grey pants, moccasins and an oversized clutch in animal skin is ideal.
- Chino shorts are great in khakis and in bright colors. Throw on a tank or that old Nirvana tee for a bit more edge. Drop crotch shorts stray away from the traditional pair of shorts. And can move forward into fall when worn with a pair of jersey thermals slightly pulled above the ankle with combat boots.
To complete your summer look? Sunnies. Do aviators in a light olive or brown lens. Wayfarers don’t always look good on everyone. Try an oversized wayfarer shape in classic black to go with everything, Grey Ant makes a really good pair.
You should have fun with clothes. Experiment, the traditional mixed with the unexpected always looks good.
