NJ Same-Sex Marriage
The year 2009 is but a few weeks away and there is excitement that New Jersey will become the first state in the nation to enact marriage equality by a legislative vote instead of a court ruling. In fact, some would believe that given previous comments by Governor Corzine, along with strong Democratic majorities in the State Legislature that marriage equality is a sure bet in the coming few months.
However, Steven Goldstein, president of Garden State Equality warns, “The problem this past year is our community has come to think of marriage equality as inevitable. Nothing is worse to the inevitability of a political event than considering it inevitable.” So we enter the new year with good prospects but no sure thing.
