The bodies of two gay men have been found in Baghdad’s Shiite slum of Sadr City after a leading cleric repeatedly condemned homosexuality, an Iraqi police official said Saturday.

It is believed that the two men were killed by family members for bringing shame upon their families. Police suspect this is the case since no one has come forth to claim the bodies or has called for any further investigation. Homosexuality is punishable by up to seven years in prison in Iraq.
