A breakthrough gathering in Washington D.C. on LGBT youth
This country’s more progressive citizens have been constantly chanting for change, and the beginning of that change is here. The National Advisory Council on LGBT Homeless Youth recently met with congressional representatives in Washington D.C. This breakthrough gathering brought together members of the Council with Representatives and Senators to discuss the ever growing epidemic of homeless youth, specifically LGBT youth, in this country.
According to a report produced by the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, out of the 575,000 to 1.6 million homeless and runaway youth, 20 to 40 percent of them identify as LGBT. This number is why many people refer to the gay homeless youth population as an epidemic.
