Universal Studios’ Islands of Adventure theme park in Orlando is the location of a miracle, or at least some very impressive magic that speaks to the heart of a very wide variety of cultures and age groups, each for its own reasons. For LGBT people there is a special relationship to J.K. Rowling’s masterpiece of contemporary literature, the Harry Potter series. We know what it’s like to be different, in many cases raised by people who hate what we really are, and to triumph over this adversity by learning to believe in ourselves and transform our worlds with the magic of our creativity. Many of us indeed see in Harry Potter a veritable metaphor for our own lives.
