The Real Housewives Of New York” have not been seen on screens for close to eighteen months, but their long-awaited return proves that there is plenty of life left in the ladies of the Big Apple. While a huge cast shake-up last season proved that no Housewife (ok almost none) is irreplaceable, the ladies have spent their time away sharpening their claws and are back in a huge way.
Aviva Drescher was the most polarizing of the new ladies last year, and her feuds with Ramona Singer and Sonja Morgan kept viewers hooked. Her famous line “you’re both white trash quite frankly” was actually seen on a t-shirt or two.
This year, Aviva is back and waging war with fellow Housewife Carole Radziwill over what is now titled #Bookgate, putting Carole’s credibility and reputation on the line. Meanwhile, the last original Housewife of NYC standing, Ramona Singer, is still there and as fellow Housewife Heather Thompson recently told me, “Ramona can sometimes often be the mamma bear, if you will, or the voice of reason, believe it or not”!
Regarding the recent disintegration of Ramona’s marriage to husband Mario, Heather said little, but did say that “Ramona and Mario’s, you know, personal issues are their personal issues. But what I can say to you is that as a friend – to anybody as friend – when you’re going through any type of difficult time, you’re there for each other. Now it may be just having a cocktail and not talking about anything. It may just be sending a text to let them know that you’re there if they need you. And it may be a shoulder to cry on, if that’s what’s needed”.
Sonja Morgan continues to build her brand – whatever that may be. She has a relationship entanglement that may just cause some major friction with a couple of the other Housewives. Heather Thompson keeps balancing it all, but based on the season preview, has some major entanglements with several of the Housewives. Her line “That Singer Stinger” is destined to become a classic.
New gal on the block Kristen Taekman recently told me that while entering into the “Housewife” stratosphere you do “hear stuff” about becoming part of the show, this season one part she really enjoyed was that “we had some really great vacations. I mean, obviously, you’ve seen the previews. So, you know, we went to Montana which was amazing. I mean, visually, it’s just gorgeous. And, you know, lots of fun stuff happened there – good and bad”.
“The Real Housewives Of New York City” airs on Bravo, Tuesday at 8 pm Eastern.
