That is the phrase that has helped to catapult the Day of Silence Project, a grassroots, student-led movement sponsored by the Gay Lesbian and Straight Education Network in partnership with the United States Student Association, into the high schools and colleges of conventional America. Formed in 1996 by students of the University of Virginia, after receiving a positive response from both the campus and the media, organizer Maria Pulzetti decided to take the movement nationally, and by 2001 GLSEN became the official organizational sponsor.
