Supreme Court Rules that States will not be able to ban same-sex marriage. In a 5-4 ruling the court said marriage was a right of all couples regardless of sex. Garden State Equality will hold a rally this evening with North Jersey Pride in Maplewood at 6:30 pm.

“There are hardly words to describe how excited we are,” said GSE Executive Director Andrea Bowen. “Marriage equality is a constitutional right. We’re honored that New Jersey was a leader in the marriage equality movement, and we’re simply elated to see the rest of the country join us in celebrating love and justice.”

The marriage equality celebration rally at 6:30 pm will be held at the Maplewood Town Hall Steps, 574 Valley Street, Maplewood, NJ 07040. In the case of rain, the rally will be held at the Burgdorff Center, 10 Durand Rd, Maplewood, NJ 07040. Garden State Equality will be supplying signs.

GSE will honor it’s previous Executive Directors, Steven Goldstein and Troy Stevenson, along with board, staff and volunteers, and allies in the state legislature who made New Jersey a leader in the fight for marriage equality.

More coming shortly. An interview with Garden State Equality Executive Director Andy Bowen later this afternoon.
