The Real Housewives Of New Jersey Season 3

The Bravo network recently announced its summer lineup, and it’s no surprise that The Real Housewives of New Jersey is one of the programs that has been renewed. Diehard Housewives fans will remember the Teresa Giudice – Danielle Staub showdown at the Season 2 reunion show, sparked when Danielle made a cryptic remark about Teresa’s acknowledgment of her nephew, which sent Teresa on a profanity-filled rant, having to be physically restrained by reunion host Andy Cohen.

This year, we get to meet the family behind the remark, and let me be the first to tell you: any questions will be answered after you see the first episode of Season 3 (premiering on May 16).

Before we delve into the Giudice family drama, a quick update on the other cast members–Jacqueline Laurita is working with husband Chris on getting daughter Ashley on the straight and narrow (hopefully sans any future hair-pulling incidents). Mama Bear Caroline Manzo is dealing with somewhat of an “almost empty nest” syndrome, with two of her children thinking about moving out and one talking marriage. It looks like Caroline may also be taking on a new career as a radio host! While the ladies of North Jersey have taken a trip to Atlantic City (Season 1) and Italy (Season 2), it looks like this year they may be traveling to another locale completely!

First things first: you will see the Giudice family finance problems dealt with heavily this year, as Teresa has been working hard writing two cookbooks and doing signifigant press and book signings, while husband Joe is working at his new pizzeria (Giuseppe’s Homestyle Pizzeria in Hillside).

We are introduced to Teresa’s brother, Joe Gorga, and his “Jersey princess” wife Melissa. (Melissa, originally of Toms River, is also apparently a singer, so keep an eye out in this column for news on her music.) It becomes obvious quickly that the tension between Teresa and Melissa will be a prominent storyline this year.

Teresa’s first cousin Kathy Wakile also joins the show as a regular cast member, and based on Episode 1, she is also on “Camp Gorga,” with the opinion being that Teresa has changed, and thinks of the Manzo/Laurita clan as more family than her own.

There is a reason that the season premiere is 90 minutes. Without giving away any spoilers, I’ll tell you that there is a large family occasion, which sparks an event that rivals any fight I’ve seen on this show in three seasons (and any fan knows that there have been several)! I truly was glued to my set for the entire 90 minutes. The season premiere is slightly “Gorga/Giudice” heavy. but this is for the sole purpose of introducing new cast members and laying the groundwork for a great (and extended, so I hear) Housewives season!

The premiere does have its lighter moments. The ongoing theme is that this show is family (I mean, it is Jersey after all)! While the ladies of Beverly Hills and New York City are huge fan favorites, the lives they lead are more fantasy and escapism, which we also love! The women of New Jersey are true “housewives” in many ways, dealing with teenagers, family dinners, and of course, drama! Definitely a must-see and definitely “Jersey”!
