Every summer there are a ton of break out tracks that could become “the summer anthem” (last year, it was the totally overplayed Pitbull/Neyo “Give Me Everything;” I’m not the only one that thinks of that one and equates it with Beach Bar rum buckets)! So far, the Flo Rida ft. Sia track “Wild Ones” seems to be creeping into “song of summer” territory.
While rap lyrics have historically not been popular on the gay dance floor, the savior for this track may be Australian artist Sia, who is most recently best known for her contribution to the David Guetta hit album “Nothing But The Beat” with “Titanium.” Expect a ton of remixes on this one, but many of the unofficial ones out there keep Sia’s breathy hook, while dropping Flo Rida’s rapid fire rapping (which, in my opinion, is not the worst thing in the world) and replacing it with some big room industrial sound.
Maroon 5 is dropping their latest album “Overexposed” on June 26th, just in time for 4th of July beach-side barbecues and pool-side tea dances to be filled with their latest track, “Payphone.” While the title of the track may seem dated in this age of technology, (I mean every Chuck on the corner has a cell phone at this point), the track still will carry us through the summer. It has Adam Levine’s signature vocals, with a very wistful and pop-esque vibe to it, perfect for late in the day drives home from the beach.
Wiz Khalifa contributes a rap portion to the song, which is bound to be removed for Top 40 play, but the remainder of the song is solid. One remix has crept out already, the unofficial “Sex Ray Vision Remix,” which slightly raises the BPM of the track, but keeping the fun vibe of it for a night on the dance floor.
For every David Guetta track that many would consider a “throwaway,” there are tracks that are destined to keep us moving throughout the summer. Guetta’s work with Usher on “Without You” and Kelly Rowland on “When Love Takes Over” have defined the dance floor at certain times, and his track with Jessie J-“Laserlight” is the latest from Guetta. With his signature throbbing beats and Jessie J’s “across the pond” flavor and dance floor ready voice, the track is destined for dance floors this summer. As with other Guetta tracks, this one has the signature beats throughout the song, with a chorus that kicks into a high NRG chorus. Mixes will be forthcoming from this one!
