Chances are you won’t find Snooki or “The Situation” at this New Jersey Shore bash, but you will have the opportunity to dance and play with some of the hottest men and women from the Garden State, and beyond. The 10th annual Sand Blast Weekend from July 20-24, 2011, in Asbury Park is another gay party not to miss.

Sand Blast has grown up from a purely local event previously known as Road Trip to this nationally attended five -day LGBT extravaganza of fifteen gay events. Part of the reason is, of course, Asbury Park’s top-rated beach, but there’s also the huge variety of entertainment options offered day and night throughout the celebration.

“Asbury Park’s tremendous renaissance over the last ten years has been due in large part to the huge influx of gays and lesbians who have discovered this jewel on the Jersey Shore and invested their time and money into restoring it to its former glory – house by house and street by street,” said Sand Blast producer Brad Hurtado. “Sand Blast Weekend is a celebration of all that we’ve done together and a way for us to encourage even more of our friends and family to come see what all the buzz is about.”

Itstarted ten years ago with a group of friends organizing a single performance by Cyndi Lauper. This year it is a destination event offering fun for both men and women. With parties, after-parties, entertainment, dining, sports and arts events for the entire spectrum of LGBT. Sand Blast is a JustCircuit Magazine 2008 & 2009 nominee for Best Beach Party of the Year and a 2010 nominee for Best Pool Party of the Year, Best New Circuit Event and Best Circuit Value.

Kick Off Party at Convention Hall in 2010The party kicks off on Wednesday evening at Georgie’s Bar in Asbury Park. ReVision Theatre’s production of the campfest musical “Xanadu” entertains on Thursday night. Friday’s steamy gay volleyball exhibition on the beach is followed by the Lost At Sea kick-off party in Convention Hall. Hurtado says thousands of hot men and women coming to meet and play to music by NYC’s hottest DJs Corey Craig and SNAXX duo Rich King and Gustavo will be a big draw. The Shipwrecked after party at ultra chic Watermark with DJ Max Rodriguez, and 70’s Disco Bowling with DJ Guy Smith (NYC) at the retro Asbury Lanes finishes off Friday.

Sand Blast 2010 photoSaturday brings the sun-drenched highlights of the weekend – Sand Blast Beach Party with music by DJ Joe Gauthreaux (LA) and David Marc (NYC) at Convention Hall’s AQUA Bar and the adjacent Sunset Beach. Guests dance under the sun on a custom built 50′ x 70′ dance floor that hugs the ocean. Meanwhile, DJ Susan Levine, renown to New York City and Fire Island fans, rocks the Siren of the Sea women’s pool party at the Hotel Tides.

Later, Saturday night, The Gutter Ball at Asbury Lanes with DJ Michael Formika Jones who spins NYC’s popular weekly F*Word parties at Splash Bar and the WET party Saturday night with DJ Roze Royce (NYC). Between all the parties, Hurtado says there will be yoga on the beach, an art crawl, and time for shopping, dining and exploring Asbury Park. He says there will be some time for relaxing too. “Sand Blast weekend is known as the friendliest GLBT event on the East Coast,” he says, it’s still created and produced by the local homeowners who want to help return this fabled beach town to its rightful position as the jewel of the New Jersey Shore. This year we’ve partnered with Mark Nelson Events, Manhunt, Grindr, DaddyHunt, GO Magazine, Danielle Presents, Sir Sabrina, Chris Ryan.”

“We’re creating an exciting and unmissable weekend for our tenth anniversary,” added Hurtado, whose production skills have been honed as a producer of live television shows and such marquee events as The CLIO Awards, The Billboard Latin Music Awards, and most recently, LOGO network’s gay reality show The A List – New York.
