For One-Night-Only, on January 19, The Philly POPS is proud to present Rufus Wainwright in concert at the Kimmel Center Verizon Hall. He will be backed by the Philly POPS 65 piece orchestra and will sure rouse emotions with a finale of Halleluiah” featuring the Philadelphia Gay Men’s Chorus. This is an event not to be missed!

Karen Corbin, Vice President of Philly POPS and Danny Palmieri, Assistant Director of Sales and Customer Relations, said this is a different type of event for POPS, which as Karen describes, “is a bit more middle of the road with the kinds of talent choices that we have, less driven by the name of the talent and what they’ve done, and more driven by our mission which is essentially exploring American popular music.”

But when they heard the announcement that Wainwright was doing a tour featuring symphony orchestra’s they jumped at the chance, to be a part of it.

“As a member of the (Gay Men’s) Chorus myself,” Danny shared, “I am so thrilled that the chorus will be joining us. An hour and a half before the show the Chorus is taking the Kimmel Center Plaza stage and doing two 20-minute sets, mini PGMC concerts, featuring some of their greatest hits. As well as joining Rufus in the finale of ’Halleluiah’, which we all know and love!”  100 voices in tuxedos, a 65-piece symphony and Rufus Wainwright center stage! What more could you want?

Following the concert, the POPS will host a fundraising dessert reception at William Way LGBT Community Center, just a block away from the Kimmel Center, featuring another performance by the Gay Men’s Chorus. Wainwright is expected to attend the reception.

VIP Packages will include the best available seating for the concert and inclusion at the reception. Proceeds from the reception will benefit William Way, an LGBT community center.
