Carole Radziwill has gone from Emmy-award winning journalist to “Real Housewife of New York City” on the reality show of the same name. Her first novel “What Remains” detailed her love affair with Prince Anthony Radziwill, as well as her friendship with Anthony’s cousin, John F Kennedy Jr and his wife, Carolyn. While “What Remains” detailed a story of great love and friendship, Radziwill’s new novel “The Widow’s Guide To Sex & Dating” is a more fictionalized departure from her first book.
Radziwill channels her inner Candace Bushnell and tells the story of Claire Byrne, who is a glamorous 34-year-old Manhattan girl, married to a man “a few years older”, husband Charlie. While Charlie could stand to be more supportive at times, he is still her loving husband. Claire’s world is then rocked when Charlie is killed by a falling sculpture one day, on the streets of New York City.
Instead of wallowing in her grief, Claire takes on a new life with gusto. While she may have a few more cocktails at times than she should, she is slowly reinventing herself as a single woman, but also as a “widow”. Along the way, she dates a man with more money than she could ever dream, and a movie star with more than a “passing” similarity to a certain former “E.R.” actor.
During a chat with Princess Carole recently, one of my first questions was whether or not George Clooney was more than a passing inspiration for one of her characters, and her answer was that “people can guess that it is, or whoever they want”.
Carole also gave me the exclusive info that “The Widow’s Guide” is potentially being optioned to be a television show!
“The Widow’s Guide to Sex & Dating” is the perfect book to grab and enjoy as the days get longer – and (thankfully) warmer. Candace Bushnell helped turn Carrie Bradshaw into an icon with “Sex & The City” during the 90’s, and it looks like Carole Radziwill will be bringing Claire Byrne to take her own iconic turn very soon.
