Over 200 NJ School Students attend Gay Straight Alliance Forum

Over 200 students representing many dozens of high schools from all over the region attended workshops on such topics as Building Alliances, LGBT History, Gender Identity, Knowing Your Rights and Life After High School at Robbinsville High School in October.

Most of the Robbinsville administration and many school board members were present to further reinforce the welcoming atmosphere. School Superintendent Dr. John Szabo commented, “The kids have been really looking forward to this. We are glad to have the opportunity. We hope everyone will have a good time, and learn some things as well.”

In addition to students, the wide variety of attendees included adult advisors to the various organizations involved, outside speakers and even at least one set of grandparents. When interviewed, the grandparents said their grandson had identified as a gay student and they were here to learn and to show support.
