NJ resident Emmanuel Laboy named as Victory Congressional Intern

Gay and Lesbian Victory Institute intern Emanuel Laboy of Fanwood NJ.The Gay & Lesbian Victory Institute named Emmanuel Laboy of Fanwood to the summer class of Victory Congressional Interns. The program places LGBT college students in an internship with an LGBT, or LGBT friendly, member of congress. Laboy was one of eight individuals selected, from an applicant pool of 89.

During the internship Laboy will be interning in New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez’s Washington D.C. office as part of the 2014 class of Victory Congressional Interns.

“Victory congratulates this year’s class of exceptional young LGBT leaders,” said Torey Carter, Managing Director of the Gay & Lesbian Victory Institute. “The Victory Institute logoVictory Congressional Internship is a crucial part of the Victory Institute’s mission – to build and support a network of LGBT leaders. I am optimistic that these eight young people will help shape a bright future for LGBT representation.”

Laboy is from Fanwood, N.J. and will be a senior this fall at Quinnipiac University in Connecticut – where he studies Political Science. On campus, he is a coordinator for QUEST, the university’s transition assistance program for underrepresented students. In spring of 2014, Laboy completed a semester long internship within the district office of Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro.

Each semester, the Victory Congressional Internship serves the purpose of developing the next generation of out public leaders by bringing outstanding LGBT college students to the nation’s capital to participate in an intensive leadership program which includes firsthand experience working for a member of U.S. Congress, an educational and leadership development program, as well as a community service project. In December, the students will attend the Victory Institute’s annual international conference in Washington, D.C.
