The volunteers and sponsors of the 6th Annual fundraising event, ForePlay, have announced that the outdoor street fair event on the 700 block of Cookman Avenue is unexpectedly moving. The yearly New Jersey leather, bear and kink event has previously been held at a few different loocations in Asbury Park and was planned to be on Cookman Avenue again in 2011 – as in the past two years. But due to last minute expenses imposed by the City of Asbury Park it will be moved to Club Paradise in the New Jersey gay resort town.
ForePlay is produced by Dragonslairs Production, The Jersey Amazons, The Jersey boys Of Leather, New Jersey Leather Family and The Bootblack Brigade. The Annual event is part of the New Jersey’s Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Weekend – usually refered to as Jersey Pride.
“As a fundraising event, Foreplay was designed to support local LGBT charities and community services as well as the Wanamassa Fire Department. The additional expense levied by the City of Asbury Park, only 17 days prior to the event,” Danny Tamez, ForePlay Volunteer Coordinator said, “undermines this core value.”
Instead, Foreplay will be presented at Club Paradise, 101 Asbury Avenue, in Asbury Park from 1-6 pm. Organizers say that last minute support by the management staff of Club Paradise and it’s owner, Shep Pettibone, has saved the event for this weekend. Paradise is a large club that includes several bars, a pool, restaurant and an on site hotel called the Empress.
FOREPLAY 2011 will feature entertainment, a Leather Flea Market, play space, a tattoo contest sponsored by Neptune Tattooville and hundreds of hot men and women. The talented members of The Bootblack Brigade will be on hand to service the crowd.
Live performances by David Gerlitzki aka “DJ Re-tic”, will be tearing up the sound system with classic and current house beats and rough electro sounds. And live perforners include Lady Marisa, one of Asbury Park’s favorite drag performers, and Josh Zuckerman.
“Foreplay was a keystone event that expanded the celebration of New Jersey Gay Pride from a one day event into a weekend full of various cultural and community festivities, with sold out dining and overnight stay accommodations,” says Sal Susino, Foreplay Event Coordinator. “All of this affecting not only Asbury Park but surrounding towns as well during the economic downturn. We regret that the relocation of the event impacts the financial viability,” says Susino, “of those Cookman Avenue merchants who have whole heartedly supported Foreplay from the beginning.”
Out In Jersey is a media sponsor of the event. Please see http://www.4playnj.com/.com for more information.
