Moulin Rouge the Musical is a remake of the motion picture film. While the movie’s major themes remain consistent throughout this live on-stage production, the composition of the storyline blended with the improved musical medleys have been revamped in the best of ways by including new mashups of more recent hits from artists like Adele, P!nk, Katy Perry, Beyoncé, and Rihanna.
This larger-than-life, romance-packed musical compiles some of the greatest songs from the past 60 years to portray the unexpected love story between a penniless writer and the Moulin Rouge’s star material girl. Boasting the bohemian ideals of “Truth, Beauty, Freedom, and Love,” this show pulls on all of the heartstrings, bringing you a dramatic saga of love and heartbreak.
The talented actors in this musical have exceeded the standard set by the film by raising the bar on what a remake should be. Supporting roles like the Duke of Monroth (Andrew Brewer) and Toulouse-Lautrec (Nick Rashad Burroughs) surprise us by taking their characters to new levels.

The antagonist of the story is portrayed as much more than the shallow storybook villain. He is given depth and beauty. Christian (John Cardoza) and Satine (Courtney Reed) make a great duo conquering medleys comprised of music written in multiple genres from decades apart and making it look easy.
The Roxanne/Chandelier mashup brings you to your feet. Cardoza completely steals the show, with his acting and beautiful vocal tone being the icing to this proverbial cake.
Get to the Kimmel Cultural Campus before this show closes! Moulin Rouge! The Musical is playing at the Academy of Music until July 23, 2023.
