Motive is still questionable in Newark playground murders

Shahid Baskerville and Gerardo Gomez could have been standing outside the principal’s office for writing dirty words on the blackboard. Both were 15 at the time of Newark’s infamous playground murders – a crime which rocked Brick City and sent activists into a frenzy. In court, they stood silent and almost unaware of the gravity of the charges against them.

A 15-minute drive away from that courthouse in Ivy Hill Park, a visitor stands in the rain reflecting on the senselessness that took Terrance Aeriel, Dashon Harvey and Iofemi Hightower away from their families in the summer of 2007.
