Matt Martin is a positive force within the media who, thanks to the power of social media, has become a stellar voice within the Bravo Network community. In a short time he was able to catapult himself from opinionated blogger to establishing his own PR firm. The 27 year-old loud and proud gay man has no shame (well, most of the time), and isn’t afraid to go about getting whatever his heart desires.
With the birth of a public relations firm, along with a radio show on Toginet Radio that has broken records and the celebrity resource for all things positive, www.RHOTofficial.com, it’s hard to believe that one of Twitter’s favorite personalities is still single (and ready to mingle)!
Your story is very interesting. How did you get your start?
Previously, I worked in management for high-end retail designers, for approximately ten years. I lived everywhere and was on my own since before I graduated high school, so I am a very independent person.
“Real Housewives of Twitter” has grown considerably over the past year. Why do you feel that is?
RHOT was something completely fresh. I started the blog because 95% of what everyone ever reads about entertainers is negative, and I wanted to be a positive force in a stack of negativity. We’ve obviously expanded, and RHOT is going to cover Bravo, Pop Culture, Food, Fashion, and Beauty. We went from 25k hits a month, to now receiving nearly three million hits.
What was the purpose of opening your own PR firm?
People kept asking me to represent them, and I kept referring them to others. I spoke with my former publicist, who suggested that I open up my own firm, and so I did. Puerto Rican singer, and U.S. crossover artist, Aleshander was my first client, and I am now in the process of negotiating contracts with several other clients. The goal of “Only Matt Martin PR” is to help artists and businesses relate to their public via social media at it’s finest.
What are you willing to do and not to do for a client?
Just about anything a client needs, as long as it is legal and morally acceptable.
This may sound silly, but why do you do what you do?
Because I have a voice now, and since people will actually pay attention to what I have to say, and I want to use it in correlation with my work to send out a positive message. If there is something I can assist with or help orchestrate, that is decent paying, sign me up asap!
What have been some of your favorite projects that you have participated in?
More recently, I hosted a fundraiser for the LGBT Center, along with the Alisa Maria Fur showcase during “New York Fashion Week.” I also supported the ‘LGBT-INI @ BAR-TINI’ event and posed for New Jersey Equality. March also marked the second annual ‘Twitter Takeover’ of the off-Broadway hit, “My Big Gay Italian Wedding,” where I had a cameo performance. I love meeting celebrities and personalities, only to find out how down to earth and personable they are. I am able to sit down and have a conversation with them, which at some points seem very surreal (case and point, the GLAAD Awards with Ricky Martin).
What may we expect from Matt Martin and “Only Matt Martin PR” in the future?
www.OnlyMattMartin.com has launched, and it will have a client and project(s) list. I have been asked to host various events and fundraisers, which I have a huge passion for. I am very accessible, social, and I am always available 24 hours a day for my clients.
