BOOK REVIEW – Straight State

Princeton Professor Margot Canaday has presented us with a superb and groundbreaking analysis of the role of federal institutions in shaping the LGBT identity over the course of the 20th Century. While this is a work of serious scholarship, it is neither ponderous nor pedantic and can be enjoyably read by those whose interest is amateur or even casual.

I particularly like Professor Canaday’s methodology in which she provides the reader with copious annotations – sources, commentary, sidelights and explanations of minor points.
