Like Santa Claus & hanging stockings, the annual Toys for Tots benefit at Georgie’s Bar in Asbury Park is a holiday tradition. This year’s benefit, organized by Sgt. Connie Breech (also an Asbury Park resident) was another smashing success with hundreds turning out to support the cause. Charlie Gurrera, Georgies Manager, spoke with me and told me that “with over 250 people in attendance, and over 800 toys” he could not have been more thrilled with the evening.
The evening would not have been complete without amazing entertainment, and there was no shortage of that. The musical duo “Sisters” definitely gave the evening a “Etheridge-esque” feel, with renditions of Christmas standards, and Jilly Sentino continued to show why she is a local talent to keep an eye on, with stirring renditions of holiday classics. Drag diva Christy Girlington served her best “holiday drag”, reminding us why she is an Asbury Park favorite, and Gretchen Bennett was a “Mother Christmas” MC for the evening.
Local celebrity Lori Michaels performed also and she took a few minutes following her performance to talk to me about her quickly rising star, her collaborator wish-list, and of course, her “Real Housewife” connection….
