An Intimate Evening with Kristin Chenoweth, the current tour by the pint-sized performer with the voice of an angel is currently touring the nation’s most intimate venues. She is the original Glinda of Broadway’s Wicked. And An Intimate Evening with Kristin Chenoweth is characterized by a juxtaposing setlist and heavy fan interaction. Each night, Chenoweth alters the setlist, performing a mix of classics, covers, and new material.

If you always longed to see Kristin Chenoweth on Broadway yet never had the opportunity, this is definitely the show for you. If Chenoweth’s recent performance at Mayo PAC is any indication of the caliber of venues she is visiting, there is not a bad seat in the house. Moreover, attendees definitely receive their money’s worth. Prior to each song Chenoweth details a personal backstory, adding to the idyllic atmosphere. She makes a genuine effort to interact with the audience and manages to build an authentic connection with her fans. With merely a mic and piano, Chenoweth captivates the audience just as much as any of the stadium-touring Top 40 artists of today.

The concept for An Intimate Evening with Kristin Chenoweth is truly touching. By the end of the show, you feel as though you just walked out of a Tony winning Broadway play. Nevertheless, there are kinks present which should be addressed prior to the next tristate area performance. This tour could certainly benefit by including more songs from Wicked in the setlist, especially being as the Morristown performance coincided with NBC’s heavily promoted 15th Anniversary special of the iconic play. And yet the only track that was included was “Popular.” Absent were the staples “Defying Gravity,” and “For Good,” which left one feeling empty albeit yearning for more, especially considering the show begins promptly at 8 pm and ended at 9:30 pm; shockingly short for such an accomplished performer as Kristin Chenoweth.

An Intimate Evening with Kristin Chenoweth will be at Count Basie Center in Red Bank, NJ on June 6, and the American Music Theatre, Lancaster, PA on June 8, 2019.
