Judge Vaughn Walker strikes down “Prop 8” in California

There were many signs reading “Straight Not Narrow,” and a few said “Gays on Strike–Blow Out Your Own Damned Hair,” on proud display in California on Aug. 4, 2010. In an opinion that may prove to alter history, U.S. District Judge Vaughn R. Walker ruled that “California has no interest in differentiating between same-sex and opposite-sex unions,” and deemed the voter-approved ban on gay marriage in California unconstitutional. Attorneys on both sides expect the ruling to be appealed, and eventually reach the U.S. Supreme Court by 2011.
