San Francisco – The Federal judge who overturned Proposition 8 ruled that gay marriage could resume in California as of August 18th. The ruling by Judge Walker means that gay and lesbians can marry in six days. Walker said California officials cannot deny marriage licenses to same-sex couples. Opponents of gay marriage have time to appeal the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. If the appeals court does not act by August 18th at 5:00pm, then gay marriages can go forward. Attorneys for same sex couples, Governor Schwarzenegger and Attorney General Brown all filed legal motions last week asking that same sex marriages be allowed to resume immediately.
