The 2018 Handmade Holiday Tour was a one-of-a-kind experience

Following the unprecedented success of 2017’s Handmade Holiday Tour, Jewel decided to hit the road again this holiday season for the 2018 installment. Special guests and family members joined the songstress on the road. They included Atz, Atz Lee and Nikos Kilcher. They are featured on the family’s successful Discovery Channel television series Alaska: The Last Frontier, which is currently in season eight.

Jewel’s Handmade Holiday Tour is a one-of-a-kind experience. Not many artists today perform without a solid setlist, let alone take requests from the audience. Nevertheless, Jewel’s show is heavily audience dependent, and welcomes fan participation. The crowd went wild every time Jewel took requests and performed on cue.

Mixing holiday classics with chart-topping hits, Jewel used Christmas classics to show off her vocal range. Her voice appears to have gotten stronger with age. And she used the hits to remind us of her uncanny songwriting ability, which has garnered the once homeless musician four Grammy nominations and over 30 million albums, sold.

Jewel performed a very intimate show with stories that connected the audience

During the intimate show Jewel opened up about her inspiration for songwriting. Through her stories and vulnerability, the audience got to connect with the author and poet. Jewel discussed her closeness with the men in her life. They included, her father, brother, and gay best friend, with whom she created a handmade jewelry line that is sold in the lobby. She mentioned the deterioration of her relationship with her mother after discovering she had been stealing a portion of Jewel’s net worth for many years. And she recalled relocating from Alaska to Los Angeles where she wound up homeless for a period of time.

Jewel was merely trying to make a living off her talents and never thought “Who Will Save Your Soul” would become a mainstream hit. She never expected to receive Grammy nominations or VMA nominations. And it lead to a debut album (Pieces Of You) which has been certified 12 times platinum and became one of the best-selling debut albums of all time.
