New Jersey’s oldest and largest LGBT Pride celebration will be held, rain or shine, on June 4, 2017. The 26th Annual LGBTI Pride Celebration is sponsored by Bank of America and is produced by Jersey Pride Inc.
The parade, rally, and festival will be held in Asbury Park from noon to 7 pm. Organizers said last year’s crowd topped 20,000 and was the largest attendance ever. The day includes the LGBTI Pride Parade, followed by the rally and live performances on the stage at the festival grounds throughout the afternoon.
Each year Jersey Pride and its all-volunteer group bring headline performers, great food, arts and crafts, exhibits and community information, activities for the entire family, and the best in local, regional and national entertainment. The pride parade, with resplendent floats, vehicles, motorcycles, and hundreds of participants will step off at Main Street and Cookman Avenue at noon. The parade then moves east on Cookman Avenue and turns north at Grand Avenue to finish at the festival grounds at the Sunset Avenue entrance near Convention Hall. The stage, festival and entertainment grounds are centrally located by GPS coordinates at 5th and Kingsley Avenues, which is one block west of Convention Hall in Asbury Park and across the street from the famous Asbury Park boardwalk and beach.
The festival features more than 100 artisans, business groups, crafters, local and LGBT merchants, and many community organizations. There will be more than two dozen merchants in the food court with an array of food and drink selections to choose from. The festival grounds will also feature New Jersey’s largest outdoor display of the Names Project’s AIDS Memorial Quilt and activities for children of all ages in the Family Zone.
Organizers said the community should mark their calendars and are asking community leaders and vendors to plan ahead.
Applications are available online for parade participation and vendor spots at the festival grounds. The deadline for vendors is April 15. The deadline for advertising in the Jersey Gaze publication — published by Jersey Pride Inc. — is May 6, and the parade registration deadline is May 15. Vendor applications after May 16 will need to pay a late fee. All information is on the applications. To download applications visit www.jerseypride.org/applications.html.
