Bill would prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity

In a significant show of bipartisan support, Senator Jeff Merkley (OR-D), Susan Collins (ME-R), Olympia Snowe (ME-R) and Edward M. Kennedy (MA-D) introduced the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) in the Senate last Wednesday.

The Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) would prohibit employment discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity. ENDA would create express protections for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people similar to those available under existing federal discrimination laws for other protected classes of workers.

“There is no place in the workplace for employment discrimination,” said U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley.
