Hawaii Legislature Approves Civil Union Bill, now it’s up to the Governor

The Hawaiian Legislature in late April approved a civil unions bill by a vote of 31-20. The bill passed the Senate in January by a vote of 18-7 and now goes to the governor for her consideration.

Governor Linda Lingle had urged against taking up a civil unions bill and to instead focus on the states budget deficit. She has 45 days to decide to sign the bill or not.
