Support in LGBT community for Corzine failed to overcome other factors

November 3, 2009 – Republican Chris Christie defeated Democratic New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine in a tight race for governor. Corzine told supporters in his concession speech that he would work hard for a smooth transition. 

In exit polling voters said their top concerns were the economy and jobs. The state’s highest in the nation property taxes were a close second. Marraige equality was not in the top 5 concerns of voters.
