GLSEN of Central New Jersey is an accredited chapter of the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network, the foremost national organization working to ensure that each member of every school community is valued and respected regardless of sexual orientation and gender expression or identity. Recently, a tidal wave of tragic bullying stories has raised the awareness of the immediacy of the GLSEN CNJ work. The local chapter offers consultation on issues that schools are facing regarding sexual orientation or gender identity as well as training for all school staff on best practices in reducing anti-lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender bullying and harassment. They advocate for positive public policy on education concerns that affect LGBT persons and work to educate the community with presentations to students, parent groups and interested community organizations.
