Out Pets

Second Chance Pet Adoption League is a non-profit organization dedicated to finding homes for endangered dogs. They rescue most of their pets from local kill shelters and puppy mills where they live in terrible conditions until they are no longer profitable. Second Chance volunteers get to know their animals well and strive to make perfect matches between adopters and pets.

Maybe is a shy, one-year old Chow mix. She survived on her own on the streets of Philly for at least several months, hanging around a construction site where kind people fed her. Once in a foster home, it quickly became evident she grew up with little human contact; she panicked on a leash or at being touched. Since then, her true, funny personality has emerged with the help of some confident doggy friends. She loves to play with toys, wrestle, chase and be chased by other dogs, and now wags her tail to get pets from her foster mom! While she still is scared of new people and places, she makes progress each day and she has so much potential. Maybe’s ideal home would be an adults-only household with one or two patient people who can earn her trust and love. She would do well with at least one other playful dog to play with and learn from.

Jujube is a stunning three-year old, 17-pound Papillion mix rescued from a local pound where she was terrified every day. It took her a week to warm up and trust her rescuers but, once she bonds, she is a silly, playful girl who loves attention. She clearly came from an abusive past as she is hand-shy and struggles with trust issues. She needs someone to love her on her terms. She likes the other dogs in her foster home, prefers males, and would do well in a home with another friendly dog to help her gain confidence. Jujube is ready to find a permanent, calm, adult home with someone who will give her the time and space to learn to trust.

Donations go directly toward medical care and supplies. Second Chance always needs volunteers to help with fundraising, handling dogs at weekly adoption events, and fostering dogs and puppies. Please email njwoof@cs.com to volunteer or to meet one of the wonderful dogs described above.
