“Standing up for equality is always right, and because of their proven record and commitment to New Jersey’s LGBTQ community, each of these candidates have decisively earned Garden State Equality’s endorsement,” said Christian Fuscarino, Executive Director of Garden State Equality. We are proud to support this slate of candidates, and we look forward to building a more equal New Jersey with them in office.”

To complete the endorsements, the candidates in every legislative district were invited to complete a questionnaire. GSE’s Action Fund’s board thoroughly reviewed submissions and approved the final endorsement list. Each of the endorsed candidates demonstrated a record of working with and supporting issues of importance to the LGBTQ community, and they made a commitment to the Funds Board to support the 2020 legislative agenda.

“There has been a remarkable amount of progress in passing LGBTQ protections over the last two years, including the Babs Siperstein Law and LGBTQ-inclusive curriculum,” said Chris Donnelly, Board Chair of Garden State Equality Action Fund. “But our work is far from over.”

For the 2020 legislative session, The Fund released a policy agenda that includes: banning the gay and trans “panic defense”; reforming New Jersey’s HIV laws; securing statewide funding to support LGBTQ homeless youth; and passing a bill of rights for LGBTQ older adults.

Electing a pro-equality state legislature is critical to ensuring successful passage says the Funds board. Garden State Equality Action Fund is a 501(c)4 organization.
