Out Pets
Rescues all over New Jersey have had an increase of pet foster and adoption in peak pandemic time. For Tracy McCauley, the adoptions and fosters are still high as North Star Pet Rescue in Boonton, New Jersey continues to adapt to COVID-19’s effects on the rescue world.
“I think people are ready to get back out,” said McCauley, North Star’s marketing and event coordinator. “We’re kinda gonna see how things are going—we are going to go with the flow.”
As times change, the pet rescue is ready to adapt and invite people back to the center for adoption events. Four pets were adopted two weeks ago at North Star’s open house. The rescue once hosted three open houses three within a month—sometimes more.
“We aren’t going to go back to that just yet,” said McCauley. The center is still learning how to keep up with the rate of foster and adoption rates. McCauley talks with a punch of passion. It is her hope that every dog finds a home with a loving and healthy family.
North Star was founded in October of 2017. Since then, the rescue has achieved the GOLD certification level from GuideStar (an information service specializing in reporting on U.S. nonprofit companies).
Even with higher rates of adoptions, the center has two pups that are trying to find their North Star home:
Buckshot
Hi, my name is Buckshot and I’m still looking for a forever home! I’m mostly house trained, good with other dogs (big & small) and as you can see… I’m also super cute! When I first arrived in NJ from Texas, I had a collapsed trachea and needed emergency surgery. That was back in January, and I’m all healed up now and ready for my happily ever after…with YOU!
I’m looking for an adult only home with a securely fenced yard because I need some time to trust your hands and fast motions. Because of this I am not crazy about leash walks. That’s really no biggie at all though. See, I’m just a lil guy at about 12 pounds and once I get to know you, I’m an all-star snuggler! Sleeping under the covers or being in your lap is my all time fav! Well, I also really love snackies too! Mmmm, can we share some snackies?!
Trinity
Howdy friends, my name is Trinity. I am a gorgeous Shepherd mix, with the most beautiful unique coat. I’m a super friendly youngster at about a year old. I love all people and I’m great with other dogs. I landed in a Texas shelter with an injured paw, but thankfully NorthStar didn’t mind that at all. They took me right to their vet for care. I did need to have a few toes amputated and I may require further treatment in the future, but I’m healing nicely.
I made my way to NJ a couple weeks ago and I settled right in at my new foster home. Now I’m ready for a home of my own! OPT TO ADOPT ME, TRINITY! Submit an application so we can set a date, cause meeting you would be super great!
