Online Event: Taylor Mac Holiday Sauce… Pandemic!

December 12, 2020 – 7:00PM to 8:00PM

Join 2020 Ibsen Award winner and MacArthur Fellow Taylor Mac, TO Live, and Buddies in Bad Times Theatre in celebrating the holidays in all of their dysfunction—live-streamed December 12 at 7pm, followed by a live-streamed afterparty hosted by Ryan G. Hinds.

Holiday Sauce…Pandemic! is Christmas as a calamity, reimagining the songs you love—and the holidays you hate. There’s more to the holidays than rampant capitalism, and in Taylor’s world, creativity and imagination are their own spirituality.

Mac (who uses ‘Judy’ as a pronoun) is a playwright, actor, singer-songwriter, performance artist, director, and producer. Judy’s work has been performed in hundreds of venues including on Broadway, Lincoln Center, the Sydney Opera House, and MOMA, among many others.

This holiday season will be bittersweet for so many. Taylor Mac reminds us of the collective power of our chosen families, a message that will be of particular resonance this year when so many have lost so much.

Mac dedicates Holiday Sauce…Pandemic! to Mother Flawless Sabrina, Mac’s drag mother, who passed away in December 2017.

As a tribute to her, TO Live and Buddies in Bad Times Theatre are honoring leZlie lee kam for tireless contributions to Toronto’s queer community. She joins other Queer Elders across the globe to honor a group Mac calls “The Queens.”

The Afterparty!
After Taylor Mac’s Holiday Sauce… Pandemic!, stick around (or join us) on Zoom for a local (but still online!) afterparty hosted by Toronto cabaret sensation Ryan G. Hinds. Celebrate the holiday season (and this dumpster-fire of a year) with all your best Buddies, and drag, music, and movement performances by Gay Jesus, Pearle Harbour, Jay Northcott, Carl Nouveau, Ravyn Wngz. Plus, a special appearance by the night’s honoree, leZlie lee kam. Directed by ted witzel with design by Michelle Tracey.
