Sunday, August 30 – 9:00AM – 5:00PM
African American Office of Gay Concerns, 877 Broad St., Suite 211, Newark, NJ
Garden State Equality is looking for community volunteers to help clean out and organize the AAOGC office in Newark! This is an opportunity to come together, lend a helping hand, and support the closing chapter of AAOGC’s 26 years of service to the LGBT Community in Newark and surrounding Areas. Volunteers will assist with sorting, organizing, packing, moving items, and general clean-up. No special experience is needed—just bring your time, energy, and willingness to help! Lunch will be provided! The African American Office of Gay Concerns (AAOGC) is a Newark-based community organization founded in 2001 by Gary Paul Wright in response to the need for greater representation of Black and Brown gay and bisexual men in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Wright and other community members recognized that HIV prevention and education efforts were not adequately reaching men of color and began building an organization specifically focused on their needs.
