Glen Rock to host ‘Glen Rock Pride in the Park’ Event & Flag Raising
New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal to Serve as Keynote Speaker
On June 1, 2019, community leaders, New Jersey legislators, Glen Rock residents, and LGBTQ advocates will gather at Wilde Memorial Park in Glen Rock, NJ, as part of “Glen Rock Pride in the Park” to mark the start of June as Pride Month. The borough will host its third annual Pride Flag Raising Ceremony, followed by an afternoon of music, children’s activities, poetry, and an art gallery in the park. Glen Rock Mayor Bruce Packer will serve as the Ceremony’s MC, followed by keynote speakers New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal, as well as Garden State Equality Public Health Advocate Bianca Mayes, and student representatives from the Glen Rock High School Alliance.
According to Event Organizer Holly Goshin, “Three years ago, Glen Rock was one of the first municipalities in New Jersey to fly the Pride Flag in honor of Pride Month. This year, they are celebrating the start of June as Pride Month with an afternoon full of activities that will bring members of our very special community and neighbors together to enjoy. This is an opportunity where community leaders, families and friends can all come together to celebrate Pride.”
LGBT Pride is the positive stance against discrimination and violence toward lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people to promote their self-affirmation, dignity, equality rights, increase their visibility as a social group, build community, and celebrate sexual diversity and gender variance.
