The first Lesbian Bishop has been ordained in Los Angeles, CA. Canon Mary Glasspool, 56, was ordained assistant bishop by Archbishop Jon Bruno. Her partner of 19 years and 3,000 supporters and non-supporters looked on.
The LA diocese is said to be the most progressive in the country. Archbishop Rowan Williams, said that such a move would call into question the place of the U.S. Episcopal Church in the global Anglican Communion and raises very serious questions not just for the Episcopalian Church and its place in the Anglican Communion, but for the Communion as a whole.”
