The Brass Rail Bar and Studio Six Nightclub in Atlantic City has been closed. The entire complex was boarded up abruptly around the first of October. There was no comment from the Sherwood Management Group which had taken over the ownership of the complex in September of 2005 from John Schultz Associates.
For over 30 years, the bar complex was “the gayest place in AC, 24 hours a day,” said one long time patron. It was also the last remaining gay bar in the casino city to close. Previous owner John Schultz, now an Atlantic City Councilman, bought the location in 1971 and by the late 70’s business was very good at Studio Six. He also owned the Studio Five dance bar in the former Grand Central Resort. That location is now a parking lot. His business partner Gary Hill says, “The bar business is very difficult. And in AC maybe even more so since the casino competition.”
