Civil Rights Fast Ends

Alan Bounville ended his fast for equality on November 11, citing lack of funding to continue the struggle that he and his supporters have waged for over 47 days to induce Senator Gillibrand to propose the inclusion of sexual orientation in the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The final phase of this campaign, a water-only fast conducted by Bounville for the past two weeks, attracted international attention but did not break through the stone wall erected by Gillibrand and her staff. Gillibrand, who claims to be a “friend of the LGBT community,” has none the less so far declined to respond to requests she sponsor such a bill. Gillibrand’s staff has not returned numerous calls from Out In Jersey.

The decision to end the fast was announced in a powerful message from Alan Bounville posted on Youtube. http://www.youtube.com/user/CivilRightsFast?feature=mhum#p/u
