The Jersey Shore Animal Shelter is a private nonprofit and includes the Bow Wow Boutique Thrift Shop. They have served the community for over 42 years. The mission is to rescue, care for, and rehome unwanted, abused, abandoned, and sick animals.
The goal is to adopt out special animals to caring and loving forever homes they so richly deserve. As a leader in pet adoptions in the surrounding counties and the state, the organization’s outreach goes beyond New Jersey.
They advocate for responsible spay/neuter practices and annual vet care. Educating the community about responsible pet ownership is key. They work to reunite lost pets with their owners and endeavor to make JSAS a place of refuge, safety, love, and kindness for animals awaiting adoption.
JSAS receives no federal, state, or county funding. It relies on private donors to support all programs and services.
The organization is governed by a volunteer board of directors and employs full and part time personnel with over 60 volunteers who give their time, talents, and love and are the backbone of the organization.

Feature Pet:
Prince Eric — Please help change this boy’s life! Prince Eric is the longest stay dog resident. In April it was one year that Prince Eric has been waiting. Prince is a 1.8-year-old Australian Cattle Dog mix that does not show well in his kennel. Despite signs saying “Please don’t judge me by my kennel appearance,” he still waits for someone to give him a chance. He is friendly with older kids, people and most dogs. He is affectionate, loving, and calm once outside his kennel. He loves to play soccer and loves his baby pool. JSAS would love for people to see his true personality outside his kennel. They ask readers to share his story and consider meeting this perfect gentleman.
