“A Streetcar Named Desire” ius a difficult play well done at...

A Streetcar Named Desire at the Ritz TheatreTennessee Williams' A Streetcar Named Desire was the Ritz Theatre Company's second production for their 2015 season. It is a play that juxtapositions the so-called "Southern Gentility," tottering on its last legs in the character of the mentally unstable Blanche Dubois, against the rough and tumble, sometimes violent, often immigrant Americana, swaggering full force in the character of Stanley Kowalsky, with Blanche's sister Stella caught between the two.

It’s a wrap – Gypsy ends the Ritz season

Gypsy"Gypsy", directed by Bruce Curless, is the Ritz Theatre's last production of the season. It stars Carol Furphy- Labinski as Rose, the domineering mother who pushes her daughter onto the burlesque/ strip-tease stage as a last resort to becoming a star.

A ripping-good evening of theatre at Bucks County Playhouse

Scene from Vanya & Sonia & Masha & SpikeAre you one of those adults who hate when someone says they are "multi-tasking" when they are ignoring you while they text? Perhaps you might even like Chekhov, just a little? If the answer is yes to both, then you missed a great play at the Bucks County Playhouse - "Vanya & Sonia & Masha & Spike."

Young Frankenstein is fun at the Ritz

Young Frankenstein promoThe Ritz Theatre in Haddon Township has a hit with Mel Brooks' "Young Frankenstein." Originally a movie, then set to music for Broadway, the play is a comedy about the grandson of Frankenstein who wants nothing to do with the family business.

Menopause the Musical sweetens the pot

Menopause the Musical"Menopause the Musical" was in Trenton at the War Memorial Theater. The four very talented and accomplished women from the national touring company dazzled and delighted the small but vocally appreciative audience for 90 plus minutes with highly entertaining jokes, gags, and of course, music about - what else - Menopause.

“South Pacific” at Paper Mill Playhouse was terrific

Scene from "South Pacific" at Paper Mill PlayhouseThe Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn brought us a ripping good production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's "South Pacific." Based upon the collected stories of James A. Michener, "Tales of the South Pacific," the musical introduces us to the young men and women from small towns and cities around the United States in the 1940s.

“The Wild Party” at Ritz Theatre in Haddon Township hosts LGBT...

The Wild Party at thr Ritz Theatre"The Wild Party" is a wild party indeed. Based on an epic poem by Joseph Moncure March, and borrowing the poem's words for its lyrics, it is billed as a musical, but is more an operetta. Very little of the dialogue is spoken. Most of it is sung in a bold, brazen, somewhat dissonant but still melodic contemporary score.

The Ritz Theater Company never goes out of style

"You Can't Take It With You" at Ritz TheatreThe Ritz Theater recently put on the period piece "You Can't Take It With You," written by Moss Hart and George Kaufman. Set in 1938 New York City it is about a family who are a group of zany, eccentric creatures that follow their own pursuits based on what they want to do, rather than on what societal norms tell them to do.
