Gay social app MISTER and a new testing app called Hula have become partners to encourage men to be tested for HIV. It started with a network- wide blast showing local testing centers and encouraging MISTER users to learn their HIV status. Both companies are working on a longer term agreement that would work to better educate mobile app users about HIV transmission.
El' Jai Devoureau, a transgender man in Southern New Jersey who alleged he was barred from working in a male- only job in a Camden New Jersey drug treatment facility has settled his suit. He says in June 2010, Camden Treatment Associates, LLC hired him as a urine monitor for men. His job responsibilities included monitoring male outpatients as they provided urine samples for drug testing.
A new report on LGBT equality in America's cities was just released and New Jersey did well. But Jersey City was the only perfect score in the state at 100 points. Asbury Park scored 59 points, Lambertville scored 76 points, New Brunswick scored 77 points, Newark scored 76 points, Ocean Grove scored 77 points, Paterson scored 60 points, and Trenton scored 57 points. The average score for cities in New Jersey is 70 out of 100 points, which falls well above the national average.
The recent Supreme Court decision striking down part of the Defense of Marriage Act and new access to marriage rights in 14 states already with 2 more on the way have led to an increasing number of LGBT couples planning weddings. What we learned is fascinating and would be of interest to anyone involved in the wedding industry," said Bernadette Coveney Smith, President of The Gay Wedding Institute. "By and large, same-sex couples are quite non-traditional, especially the gay grooms," she said.
Fashion designer and HIV advocate Mondo Guerra and others are joining forces with Positively Aware magazine for "A Day with HIV" photo essay campaign on September 21. A Day with HIV will help fight the stigma of HIV and advance a community of caring through this collective photographic portrait.
Michael Griffin a teacher in a Philadelphia Catholic High School was fired on Friday Dec. 6. He says it was just after he applied for a New Jersey marriage license. Michael Griffin says Holy Ghost Preparatory School administrators said his obtaining a marriage license to marry his same- sex partner was a violation of his teaching contract.
90 protestors were on hand in rural Auburn, New Hampshire early Saturday morning, September 17, to greet attendees arriving for the Exodus International North Atlantic Regional Conference. Exodus is the country's leading network of "ex-gay ministries" and a pillar of the anti-LGBT religious right. Standing on a traffic island where cars exited the highway and lining the road leading to the conference site, LGBT activists and straight allies held signs, shouted chants, and sang freedom songs. Messages like "Be Yourself," "Conversion Therapy Kills," and "God Loves Me and She Knows I'm Gay" adorned colorfully decorated posters.
