Johnny Diaz’s debut novel caught me violating a cardinal rule when selecting a book: Never judge a book by its cover. When I approached this book my mind immediately jumped to the negative connotations associated with the word manhunt. I immediately thought the book would follow suit. I, needless to say, was wrong.
Diaz’s novel is complex and written with passion that resonates on every page. The fast-paced novel follows three friends who spend their weekends cruising for Latin men in the aptly named nightclub: Score. Each character is vivid, complex and brings a unique perspective to the novel that engages you and keeps you wanting more.
