On August 5, the American Psychological Association declared that mental health professionals should not instruct LGBT clients that they can become heterosexual through therapy or treatments.

In a resolution adopted via a 125-to-4 vote by the APA’s governing council, the 150,000-member association put itself on record in opposition of so-called “reparative therapy” whose proponents declare the ability to change sexual orientation. The APA had long criticized efforts at reparative therapy.
